Ear-clip preparation

PULSESENSOR / EAR-CLIP ASSEMBLY

Prepare your ear clip.

Build the pad. Let it cool. Join the sensor. Apply the clear cover last.

The ear clip, sensor, and clear face covers are included in the PulseSensor Kit. A hot-glue gun and glue are required and are not included.

  1. Hot glue being applied to the clip mounting disk; the clasp is open.

Build the pad on the clip

Build up hot glue on the round mounting disk. Keep the hinge and moving clasp clear.

  2. Side profile of the clip with its fully cooled opaque glue pad, before adding the sensor.

    Let the clip pad cool

Let the glue on the clip cool and harden fully. It becomes cloudy and solid. Leave the sensor separate.

  3. A broad, irregular layer of fresh hot glue covers the sensor rear on the work surface.

Add fresh glue to the back

Rest the sensor face-down. Spread fresh hot glue across the back and cable joint, around the rear components. Keep the sensing face clear.

  4. Sensor face-up with broad fresh rear glue, lowered onto the cooled clip pad.

    Press the sensor down

Rest the clip on the table, hinge beside the cable. Gently lower the sensor onto the cooled pad while its rear glue is hot.

  5. Side profile showing the fresh rear glue merging with the cooled glue pad on the clip.

    Join the two glue layers

Gently press the broad fresh glue into the cooled clip pad. Glue surrounds the rear components and keeps the metal clear of the board.

  6. Bent glossy clear vinyl face cover with a bright reflected light source across the curve; other areas remain transparent. Four included face covers are shown.

    Apply the clear face cover

The clear vinyl dot is a glossy protective sticker for the sensing face. Once the glue is fully cool, center it and smooth it down.

  7. Finished unpowered assembly showing two solid glue layers and the clear vinyl cover on the sensing face.

    Ready to connect

Two cooled glue layers hold the sensor above the metal clip. The clear vinyl dot covers the sensing face. Your ear clip is ready to connect.

  8. Background-edited Arduino wiring photograph with purple at A0, red at 5V and black at GND, plus enlarged color-coded connection labels.

    Connect power and signal

Red takes 3V or 5V power. On the unplugged UNO shown: purple to A0, red to 5V, black to GND. Then follow the code and setup guide.

  9. Fine-line illustration of a person facing inward, with the glowing PulseSensor on the earlobe and its cable continuing off the lower edge.

    Wear it on your earlobe

Clip onto the soft earlobe with the sensing face against skin. Let the cable hang down.

  10. Irregular cooled glue with uneven contours folded back to reveal component impressions; the components remain on the board and pliers grip only the glue.

    Optional: peel and rework

Remove from your ear and unplug. Let the glue cool and harden fully. Grip only a free glue edge and peel slowly, like a sticker.

Hot glue bonds to hot glue, and the mount can often be reworked. Stop if the glue resists or the board flexes. Inspect both parts before reuse.
